Boyle County’s fiscal court agreed Nov. 25 to participate in a regional on‑the‑job training (OJT) agreement that ties the county to a $657,000 Bluegrass grant awarded to address workforce needs after recent storms.
Tiffany Reeves (presenting) said the grant covers the Bluegrass region for three years, through June 15, 2028, and is designed to reimburse employers — including county departments — up to 50% of a new hire’s wages during a training period that ranges from six to 24 weeks. She said the OJT reimbursement is capped at $6,000 per hire, though presenters noted there are provisions that, in some circumstances, could allow additional approvals.
The court approved signing the job‑training agreement so the county can enroll qualifying new hires and receive reimbursements. Reeves recommended connecting county human resources and hiring managers to the program representatives to complete prescreening and the OJT agreement template once the court signs.
Magistrates described the program as a useful tool for recruiting and offsetting costs for positions such as custodial, water and law‑enforcement hires. The court approved the agreement by voice vote.
