At the start of the Dec. 1 City of Sumner council meeting, Mayor or presiding officer administered the oath of office to Nicole Wilsey and Michael Hockstetter.
Nicole Wilsey and Michael Hockstetter each repeated the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of Washington and to perform the duties of council member diligently and impartially. Both concluded their oath with "So help me God." The presiding officer and members welcomed the new council members and paused for pictures.
City Administrator Jason Wilson then presented brief remarks recognizing outgoing council members Barb Beteto, Pat Cole and Pat Clurgett, thanking them for years of service and describing contributions including work with local nonprofits, the design of a new operations facility and other civic initiatives.
Council members and residents offered brief tributes during reports and recognized community events; the meeting proceeded into regular business afterward.
