Parent tells Warrick County board her son was cut from Tecumseh team with no records; asks board to produce documentation

Leslie Jean told the Warrick County School Corporation board during public comment that her son, Aiden Moore, the only senior on Tecumseh High School’s basketball team this year, was removed from the roster without any written evaluations or prior documentation.

“I am not asking this board to choose players,” Jean said. “I am asking you to look at how this decision was made because the process used violated district policy and federal requirements.” She said she met with the head coach, the athletic director and the superintendent and was given no records showing evaluations, performance notes, tryout criteria or staff reviews. “The only paper given to him was a cut form handed to him the moment he was cut,” Jean said, calling that an “after the fact justification.”

Jean said the district’s student‑records policy requires maintaining “accurate and complete student records, including any information recorded in any way that is directly related to a student.” She told the board that, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, any record directly related to a student — including placement decisions and evaluations — must be treated as an education record.

Jean alleged the lack of documentation, the timing of the roster changes and a change in her son’s treatment after she raised separate concerns earlier in the year could indicate retaliation. “Retaliation is not an administrative matter,” she said, and urged the board to either show any existing evaluations and records or correct the removal so her son receives the same opportunity senior athletes have in prior years.

The board did not make an immediate ruling or motion in response to Jean’s comments during the public‑comment period. Jean said she will continue to pursue the matter until the board corrects what she described as an unfair and undocumented decision.
