York County approves annual road maintenance agreement with Village of Washington

The York County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 9 to approve a one‑year local road maintenance agreement with the Village of Washington covering Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026.
County staff told the board the agreement mirrors what was approved earlier this year but runs on a yearly renewal so the arrangement is reviewed routinely. The agreement covers motor grader maintenance on specified roads and provision of gravel when needed; staff said state monies transmitted in exchange for the work in Lushton will be passed through to the county. Commissioners said the annual cadence helps keep interlocal terms in front of the board when membership changes.
During the public discussion, Greg (roads staff) reported recent snow‑removal operations, noted three motor graders are currently out of service and said the county is coordinating with nearby municipalities on cost‑shares for intersection lighting and plowing. The board moved, seconded and approved the agreement by roll call.
Staff said the finalized agreement would be typed and circulated to both offices for implementation.
