Farmington Board reviews next year’s strategic plan, amplifies 'vision of the global citizen' and deeper learning

The Farmington Board of Education received an overview of the district’s 2025–26 strategic plan on Nov. 17, with presenters emphasizing iterative planning, student voice and deeper learning.

"The first thing is we talk a lot about coherence and emergence," Veronica told the board, explaining the district-level themes and the flexibility schools have to design actions to meet shared goals. She said planning is collaborative across administrators, teachers and students and that school development plans will report specific performance indicators and strategic actions.

A central thread of the presentation was the district’s "Vision of the Global Citizen" (VOGC). Veronica contrasted ‘belonging’ with ‘mattering’ — asking whether students not only fit in but also feel significant and valued — and said the district is prioritizing student voice and shared ownership of culture and climate.

Veronica previewed a redesigned deeper‑learning showcase that collects representative student projects by grade and subject. She said each project page will include grade level, essential questions, learning targets and student quotes, and that the district may publish the collection as a web 'flip book' or as tiles on the district website for community access.

Board members asked questions about how the plan and the communication tools will be presented to newly elected board members and to the public; members emphasized the need to include context, timelines and a history of past decisions to support future discussion. Superintendent and staff noted Farmington’s prior statewide presentations about graduation pathways and said the district has been asked back to present because its approach is viewed as an exemplar.

The board received the briefing; no formal vote was required.
