Farmington Board honors outgoing members at final December meeting

Farmington — The Farmington Board of Education used its Dec. 8 regular meeting to honor several members whose terms end in January. The board presented proclamations and state legislative citations recognizing service, leadership on committees and roles in recent facility projects.

Chair William F. Becker Jr., who the proclamation says has served for more than 16 years and was board chair from January 2024 through January 2026, was commended for leadership on the Farmington High School facility project, the Central Office Athletic Field House and the district's transition to the River Hawk mascot. Representative Mike D'Amico read a Connecticut General Assembly citation honoring Becker’s years of service.

Sylvie Binet received a board proclamation highlighting six years of service (January 2020–January 2026) and work on the policy committee, curriculum committee, the superintendent search and elementary enrollment redistribution. Representative D'Amico also read an assembly citation recognizing Binet’s contributions.

Nadine Canto was recognized for four years on the board (January 2022–January 2026), including work on personnel and negotiations, the cafeteria advisory committee and the Noah Wallace Fund. Martin Skelly was thanked for his service and committee work, including the green efforts committee and the superintendent search.

Tim Schon, identified by the chair as the Union School security guard, received a separate recognition for years of service greeting students, supporting staff and contributing to school safety; Schon told the board it had been an honor to serve the community since 2014.

The meeting concluded with outgoing Chair Becker offering personal remarks and gratitude to staff, board colleagues and his family before adjourning.

The recognitions were ceremonial; no policy or budget action occurred as part of the proclamations.
