A visitors‑bureau representative and city staff described the auditorium’s recent capital work — a multi‑million‑dollar phase that addressed safety, ADA access, roof and HVAC systems, followed by acoustics upgrades — and said the facility is heavily used. "We had 985 events this last fiscal year at the auditorium," a city representative said, listing uses from weddings to pickleball and youth groups.
The visitors bureau said the original grant application sought $128,700; its board voted unanimously to offer $100,000 toward the project. Commissioners asked about the visitors‑fund balance and were told monthly receipts into the improvement fund run roughly $20,000–$25,000, with an expected annual budget target of about $225,000. No other major payouts from the improvement fund were identified at the meeting.
City staff said the floor was installed in 1993 and has been refinished previously; the planned work is a refinish and remarking (including a York logo at midcourt and striping for multiple sports). The city will put the work out to bid after approval and pay on receipts. The board moved and approved the grant by roll call.
What’s next: City staff will release RFPs after the holiday season, accept sealed bids, and return to the county for final contracting as required by county payment rules.
