Hotel occupancy tax was reported up about 19% for the same period. She noted the December collections reflect earlier economic activity and that the city expects to see November collections soon.
On capital projects, staff completed replacement and re‑grouting work tied to screw pumps at the wastewater treatment plant and ended a short rental for bypass pumps. Well 13 has been drilled; the city is awaiting a final permit to use the water. Fobb described an expected hazard‑mitigation grant award of about $980,000 toward a project she estimates at roughly $1.3 million and said the city will budget for a local match rather than full funding.
Other updates included new skate‑park equipment and lighting, plans for security cameras at parks, IT upgrades including two‑factor authentication for PD and dispatch and new city‑hall servers, dispatch hiring and applicant‑testing software to reduce turnover, outreach programs (Project Shield, Angel Tree) and preparations for upcoming events tied to Borger’s centennial year.
Fobb said the auditor will perform final fieldwork in January and the audit is expected to be presented at the second March meeting, within the statutory six‑month target. Council asked clarifying questions about sales tax drivers and other items; staff answered the questions during the meeting.
Next steps: staff will continue project procurement and return to council with budget items for required grant matches and routine updates.
