Unidentified Speaker told residents at a special called Peachtree City council meeting on Dec. 11 that the council approved a $1,000 donation from Bike Walk Fayette to fund materials and manpower to update trail kiosks and help keep the city's paths in good condition. "We approved a $1,000 donation from Bike Walk Fayette," the speaker said, and thanked the nonprofit for the contribution.
The council also approved a new part‑time police position described as an "occupant protection specialist," a role the speaker said will focus on ensuring car seats are installed properly and that infants and small children are buckled correctly. "We also approved a new part time position in our police department called an occupant protection specialist, for a person who's really good at making sure car seats are installed properly," the speaker said, noting the city already conducts routine car‑seat checks.
Council members and staff reported they recently toured two municipal facilities — one in Jefferson, Ga., and one in Chamblee, Ga. — to inspect an alternative to the aging Kedron bubble: a Sprung sprung structure. The speaker described the system as "a membrane...creating a semi permanent building over the swimming pools" with a dual membrane and insulation that the city expects could last "30 years or more." City staff said the city will engage the architect imminently to map the project and begin planning.
In other business, the Peachtree City Convention and Visitors Bureau is offering a holiday tree ornament this year that features Flat Creek Floyd, the speaker said. The items are available at the visitor center while supplies last.
Next steps: the city said it will hire an architect to develop plans for covering the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center pools; no timetable or contract amounts were provided during the meeting.
