Kent council awards contracts for reservoir vent replacement and new sidewalks

The Kent City Council on Nov. 18 awarded two Public Works contracts: a Blue Boy Reservoir vent replacement and sidewalk improvements along 83rd Avenue South and 132nd Avenue Southeast.
Public Works Director Chad Buren recommended awarding the Blue Boy Reservoir Vent Replacement Project to T. Bailey LLC following a competitive bidding process in which the low bid was $77,140 and the engineer's estimate was about $79,000. The council voted to award the contract and authorized the mayor to sign documents subject to city attorney and public works director approval.
Buren also presented the sidewalk improvements project designed to fill gaps, add a high‑visibility crossing and drainage improvements along 132nd, with federal/state Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grants covering about half the cost. Four bids were received; Active Construction Inc. was the low bidder at $1,302,090.80 (engineer’s estimate $1.4M). The council voted to award the contract and authorized the mayor to sign pending final terms.
Both contract awards carried unanimously in the meeting record (7–0) and the council emphasized the projects respond to long‑standing community requests for safer pedestrian connections and infrastructure maintenance.
