Kent Mayer, host, used the weekly update to highlight several community programs and seasonal events across the city.
He thanked Appian Way Apartments for hosting the inaugural 'Kent A to Z,' a condensed two-hour introduction to city government he described as a short version of the longer Kent 101 civics course. Mayer said the Kent A to Z drew a strong crowd and likely will encourage some participants to enroll in the 10-week Kent 101 course in spring.
Mayer also described the Game of Life Conference, organized by the Kent student board with the Kent Police Department's community education unit. He said the student-led conference covered mental health, healthy relationships and substance use, and that about 250 students participated over two days.
On seasonal events, Mayer thanked the Kent Lions Club and the Kent Parks Department for WinterFest, noted a Santa parade and a tree lighting at Townsquare Plaza, and encouraged residents to visit the downtown scavenger hunt organized by the Kent Downtown Partnership. The scavenger-hunt passport is available at downtownkentwah.com and the contest runs through December 31.
He reminded residents the city's holiday food drive is ongoing to benefit the Kent Food Bank and Project Access, with drop-off hours Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the last donation day listed as Monday, December 15. He also said the Kent Senior Center will collect holiday wish lists in 'Santa's mailbox' through Wednesday, December 17.
Mayer closed by wishing listeners Merry Christmas and happy holidays and said the weekly updates will resume in 2026.
