Carrie O’Connor, park planner, said the city received two grants in a single contract: a $500,000 local parks grant and a $3,148,247 award from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (a partnership between the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office and the National Park Service); she noted Kent was the only award recipient in Washington State for that cycle. The Council then approved acceptance of an additional $1,000,000 from the King County Parks Levy for the same project area. Motions to accept, amend the budget, and authorize expenditure and mayoral signature were moved, seconded and passed by voice votes.
The grants will support park construction; staff said the contract will be executed subject to terms acceptable to the parks director and the city attorney.
