The Town Council unanimously approved a Special Use Permit (SUP) that removes up to nine parking spaces along the south side of a roughly 10,800-square-foot building at the southwest corner of Palisades and Saguaro so a new drive‑up lane can be accommodated.
Planning staff said the building currently requires 41 parking spaces and that the Dairy Queen project projects a demand for about 16 spaces, with adjacent parking fields providing additional capacity. Staff and the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval of the SUP with two conditions: require employees of businesses in the center to park in the larger southwest parking lot rather than immediately south of the drive lane, and relocate a grease interceptor currently in a traffic island to an acceptable location to satisfy the sanitary district.
Council members asked questions about how the removed spaces will be protected and whether appropriate marking and curbing would prevent customers or employees from using the new drive‑through lane as parking; staff said markings, curbs and signage would be used and the applicant agreed to place cones if stacking becomes an issue.
The council approved the SUP by roll call vote (7–0).
