County surveyor proposes drainage review fee increases; drainage board approved schedule

Zach Beasley, who introduced himself as Tippecanoe County surveyor, presented a proposed drainage board fee schedule on Dec. 15 that would raise fees roughly 20–25% to account for inflation since the fees were last set (phase fees last adjusted in 2005, drainage review fees in 2016).
Beasley told the commission the drainage board had approved the schedule at its prior meeting and that he had circulated the proposed changes to stakeholders, including local design firms and at least one builders’ representative. "I did send this out to Mary Ellis with Bagel," Beasley said, adding he had sought and addressed stakeholders’ comments. He recommended approval and answered commissioners’ questions.
Steve Schreckengas, speaking as a home-builder representative, said builders dislike fee increases but recognized the change and asked that implementation follow state statute; he also asked for a commitment not to raise fees again for nine years. The commission approved first reading and scheduled the second and final reading for the board’s first meeting in January.
