Commissioners approve paver purchase, take bridge replacement bids under advisement and greenlight bridge inspection contract

Tippecanoe County commissioners on Dec. 15 approved multiple highway and equipment actions: purchase of a CAT AP655 paver, acceptance of a bid bond, a resolution to sell an existing paver to Fountain County, and a multiyear bridge inspection contract.
Procurement staff reported two proposals for a paver; Brandeis failed to include a required bid bond and Form 95 and had maintenance/performance disadvantages. The procurement committee recommended McAllister Machinery’s proposal for a CAT AP655 paver at $656,869, which the commission approved by voice vote. Separately, a motion to approve the bid bond for that purchase also carried.
Highway staff presented five bids for replacement of Bridges 122 and 149: HIS Constructors ($1,447,346), Morphy Construction ($1,488,000), Milestone ($1,371,395), Atlas Excavating ($1,570,894), and Reeth Riley ($1,378,388.19). The commission took these bids under advisement.
The board also approved a 2026–2029 bridge inspection and inventory contract with PS Engineering with a not-to-exceed amount of $1,004,080 to cover inspection of 220 bridges. Finally, commissioners approved a resolution to sell a county paver to Fountain County and related moving agreement, including a $40,000 moving provision.
