Tracy Gardner told the committee that five candidates were interviewed Nov. 10–11 and another five will be interviewed the week of Dec. 1 for the Penwood Middle assistant principal position; second‑round interviews are scheduled the week of Dec. 8 and successful candidates are expected to be presented to the superintendent by Dec. 19 for board consideration in January.
Gardner said the district has persistent vacancies for special‑education teachers and instructional assistants, naming Walnut, Penwood Middle School, and Penwood High School as locations with needs. She described SPED teachers as “in high demand” across William Penn and other districts.
On substitute staffing, Gardner said Kelly Education is the district’s substitute provider and invited interested candidates to contact the vendor (phone listed in meeting materials and ednerrecruiting@kellyservices.com). In response to a board question, she said the district forwarded names of retirees to Kelly at the start of the school year to recruit retirees for substitute assignments.
Gardner also described a volunteer process for serving on administrative interview panels: interested parents and teachers complete an online sign‑up, names are drawn at random, and participants will be contacted when selected.
The committee confirmed its next personnel meeting for Jan. 28, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. (virtual). Committee members also noted and agreed to correct a likely posted calendar typo for an intervening date.
