At the start of the Oct. 1 meeting Mayor Sanchez presented a proclamation declaring October as National Filipino American History Month in Oceanside, inviting leaders from the Filipino American Cultural Organization (FACO) to accept. FACO representatives described upcoming cultural events, scholarships and the organization's long record of community programming. The mayor encouraged residents to attend FACO events on Oct. 5 and noted FACO's partnership with the Oceanside Public Library.
The council also recognized several longtime local residents as 'Oceanside pioneers' in ceremonial proclamations. Families of Anita Cruz Romero, Pedro 'Pete' Magana, Joe and Judy Flores and Tony Adame accepted honors and shared brief memories of community contributions, including scholarship fundraising, long service on school PTAs and volunteer coaching.
Mayor Sanchez read a proclamation declaring Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5–11) and Fire Chief David Parsons stressed a rise in garage fires linked to lithium‑ion batteries, urged use of certified chargers and announced a department open house Oct. 18 at the Fire Training Center (110 Jones Road).
