City accepts replacement 2025 fire engine and joins Type 6 program to expand off-road response

Fire Department staff told the council the state will replace the city's loaned engine 339 (a 2008 rig) with a 2025 engine at no net cost under Cal OES's equipment replacement program; the city will return the older engine and receive the new, fully equipped apparatus.
Staff described the swap as a routine asset refresh for state-owned units loaned to local agencies and said the city's current engine has been a valuable in-town asset. The motion to accept the replacement and return the older rig passed unanimously.
In a second item, staff said the city was offered participation in the state's Type 6 program, which provides a smaller, four-wheel-drive "grass rig" better suited for off-road, brush or canal-bank incidents. The department said a Type 6 will expand operational flexibility for initial attack on non-structural fires and could be made available for state mutual-aid requests if staffing permits. The council approved participation 5-0.
Both votes were procedural approvals to accept state-provided equipment and enter the Type 6 participation agreement; no additional local appropriation was identified in the presentation.
