The City Council unanimously approved an agreement for the purchase and installation of upgraded audio‑visual equipment for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), funded from previously appropriated American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
The city’s IT presenter described a comprehensive upgrade that includes cybersecurity and network improvements; an 8‑screen video wall arranged in a 4×2 grid with a processor capable of arranging up to 16 simultaneous sources; PTZ camera and an upgraded sound system; and a microphone array to support conferencing and training. Staff said the system will allow simultaneous display of camera feeds, mapping tools, news broadcasts and video‑conferencing services on a single “pane of glass” to support emergency decision‑making.
IT staff said they have already completed cybersecurity and laptop/docking upgrades and have been evaluating mobile data hotspots to preserve connectivity during major incidents. The presenter said the procurement path was coordinated with purchasing and reviewed with audio‑visual integrators and public‑safety stakeholders. The police chief and other public‑safety staff praised the upgrade as a long‑needed capability to consolidate multiple information streams during a large‑scale incident.
Council voted 5–0 to approve the agreement. Staff said the system could also be used for training and non‑emergency briefings when the EOC is not activated.
