Summary

At its Dec. 18 meeting the Burbank Unified School District board approved a series of formal actions spanning personnel, facilities and procurement.
Key approved items included:
- Memorandum of Understanding with Los Angeles County Office of Education to host a satellite beginning-teachers program (district to provide space and a minimum of 15 interns). Motion carried unanimously (item 13a).
- Multiple notices of completion and deductive change orders for Measure ABC summer roofing projects and related work at John Burrows High School, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Joaquin Miller Elementary, Luther Middle School and other sites; staff said many items produced net savings that will return to the bond pool and that contracts include five-year workmanship warranties (items 13c–13j).
- Consultant agreement with Jason Hasty (Elevate K12 Leadership LLC), not to exceed $145,000, Jan. 5–June 30; board amended invoice approver to Dr. Oscar Macias and approved the contract (item 13l).
- Consultant agreement with the Volition Group to review health-benefit options for employees, approved unanimously with a phased structure and Phase 1 reporting requested (item 13m).
- Approval of salary/title for an executive-assistant role (separating PIO duties) and award of an executive recruitment contract to ESS (not to exceed $34,900) to support the district’s search (items 13o/13p).
- Acceptance of multiple community gifts (site-specific donations for instruments, field-trip transportation, playground and auditorium improvements) presented in the gifts report and accepted unanimously.
Board members discussed several consent items and asked staff to provide follow-up on two out-of-area reimbursements for specialists (special-education assessments) and the timing and funding source for an ADA-driven playground repair at Miller Elementary. Staff agreed to report back.
The meeting also recorded closed-session actions to readmit and expel specific student cases as reported at the start of the public meeting.
