The Planning Commission approved design and site‑plan review for two near‑neighborhood park renovation projects — North Park (Wexom Way and Hargrave Street) and Queen Park (between Queen Street and Manchester Terrace).
Public Works representative Kendrick Sanderlyn described North Park’s planned upgrades: replace fencing, install rubberized walkways to improve post‑rain usability, add four exercise stations plus one additional station near tennis courts, install eight picnic tables and benches, a 600‑square‑foot gazebo, two cameras tied to IPD, and a 130 working‑day (about six‑month) construction schedule. The restroom will receive new fixtures and repairs.
For Queen Park, staff proposed a rubberized perimeter walk, five new trees, five planters, new benches, a 60‑by‑25‑foot gazebo, restroom renovations and two cameras. Commissioners praised the scope and said these projects will improve community amenities; motions to affirm categorical exemptions and adopt resolutions for each project were approved unanimously.
Both projects were described as exempt from further environmental review and will proceed through site plan review and construction scheduling. The commission noted the parks are part of ongoing city investments in public space.
