Hearing panel grants 30‑day extension for repairs at 1704 North Beaver

A code enforcement hearing Dec. 16 granted a 30‑day extension for repairs and cleanup at 1704 North Beaver after staff and volunteers began addressing structural and debris violations.

The code officer reported that notices for a dilapidated structure and weeds/trash were mailed and posted on Nov. 26 and that photos of the violations were taken. The officer said the owner requested a hearing Dec. 2 asking for more time. "I sent out both notices for dilapidated structure and for weeds and trash," the code officer said, adding that the owner submitted a hearing request when the notice was set to expire.

Volunteers have started work on the property, the officer said, including cutting a fallen tree that posed a hazard. The officer identified one volunteer as William Bridges and said the volunteers "have actually done some work on the property" and "have cut down a few things." At the hearing, the owner’s representative said crews planned to haul wood away, disassemble a damaged shed and rebuild the fence.

The panel agreed to a 30‑day extension contingent on visible, consistent progress. The code officer described the standard: "We can continue to extend it just as long as there's change to it, not just, like, a little bit or none. Like, we want to see consistent progress on the property." Staff told the owner he should return to sign the 30‑day agreement after the remaining hearing business.

If the owner shows continued progress within the extension period, staff said additional extensions are possible upon written request and further evidence of sustained work. The panel concluded the item after confirming the timeline and next steps.
