Oakwood adopts $29.16 million operating plan for 2026

Oakwood City Council adopted the city’s annual appropriations ordinance for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2026, on Dec. 1 and waived the second reading so it would take effect upon passage.
Vice Mayor Byington said the ordinance, required by section 6.5 of the city charter, authorizes the city manager to spend public dollars for city services. He outlined budgeted spending across the city’s five primary parts: general city services at $21,603,029; refuse services at $2,171,209; water services at $2,239,667; sanitary sewer service at $2,780,667; and storm water services at $367,510. That blend of funds constitutes the city’s appropriations for 2026.
Byington told the council the citizen budget review committee (noted in the presentation as comprising representatives from the city’s voting precincts) met four times during the year and voted to endorse the budget at its Nov. 18 meeting. After the motion to waive the second reading and adopt, council approved the ordinance on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The ordinance takes effect upon passage under the charter provision cited by the vice mayor; staff will proceed with implementation under the city-manager’s authority.
