Oakwood City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance on Dec. 1 to increase water and sanitary sewer service rates, which city officials said are needed to meet operational and upcoming capital requirements.
Council Member Lehi Turban presented the measure in the second reading and said the increase would take effect in January 2026. She estimated that a typical residential customer would see a water bill increase of about $7 to $12 per month and a sanitary-sewer increase of about $3 to $10 per month, for a combined rise of roughly $10 to $22 per month based on average usage.
Turban said the changes were presented to the citizens’ budget review committee during the 2025 budget briefings and reflected anticipated spending needs. After a motion and second, the council conducted a roll-call vote; Mayor Duncan and all council members present voted yes.
The ordinance amends Appendix A (public services rate sheet) of the Oakwood Streets and Public Services Code. Council did not attach additional amendments during the session; no public comments were made on the ordinance at the Dec. 1 meeting.
Next steps: the ordinance takes effect as stated in the measure (January 2026) and the city will implement billing updates for affected accounts.
