Fresno County adopts ordinance restricting certain kratom products and sales to people under 21

The Board adopted on second reading an ordinance amending Fresno County Ordinance Code (Title 10) to regulate certain kratom products and to prohibit sales to persons under 21 in unincorporated areas. Staff said the revised language narrows the focus to concentrated synthetic kratom products linked to safety concerns while preserving legal access to natural leaf kratom for adults.
Jeffrey Laredo, speaking for an industry/consumer association, told the board the revised ordinance appropriately targets concentrated synthetics while preserving natural leaf kratom and praised the age and packaging restrictions. The board voted to approve the second reading and adoption.
The ordinance will take effect 30 days after approval in unincorporated Fresno County as specified in the agenda item.
