Moline expands food-assistance program as city attorneys warn of new federal compliance limits

Moline City leaders on Nov. 5 approved a locally funded expansion of food-assistance programs and outlined steps to reduce reliance on federal funding after city lawyers warned new federal enforcement could limit who is eligible for federally funded benefits.
In a presentation to the City Council, city staff described three elements of the program: a food-voucher distribution program carried out at City Hall and the City Service Center, a neighborhood food-drive/stocking effort to supply community pantries, and an emergency assistance program to help residents facing eviction or utility disconnection.
