The Milwaukee Public Schools committee approved administration’s request to submit a Title I, Part A Ed-Flex waiver to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to carry over $4,700,000 in Title I funds that exceed the 15% carryover cap. The motion, moved by Director Jackson, passed unanimously with four ayes.
Ayesha Sava, Chief Financial Officer, told the committee the total carryover amount is $4.7 million, of which $357,000 is attributable to the district’s public-school side and $4.3 million to the private school side. The district previously brought a similar file to the board last year, Sava said, and sought administration approval to submit the waiver request to DPI.
There were no committee objections and the motion carried. Administration indicated staff from grants and finance would be available to answer follow-up questions as the DPI review proceeds.
