Homer Glen Environment Committee recognizes residents and groups with 'Community and Nature in Harmony' awards

The Village of Homer Glen and its Environment Committee presented the Community and Nature in Harmony awards at the board meeting, recognizing residents, a business and community groups for local environmental stewardship and outreach.
An Environment Committee member described the awards history (created in 2002) and said the 2025 ceremony recognizes individuals and organizations that support the villages natural environment and community character. Recipients announced at the meeting included the Saint Bernard Parish Caring for Creation Committee (for recycling and educational events), Jennifer and Lester O'Grodney (native butterfly garden and vegetable beds), Anita and Preston Wilk (home greenhouse and pollinator-supporting plantings), Kim and John Patty (home garden with bird habitat), Nick Harasek (native garden registered with Homegrown National Park biodiversity map), Homer Honey Farm (local food production), and Class of Glory Lutheran Churchs Climate Action Team (energy-efficiency and community education). The committee said the Butterfly Garden Learning Center award will be presented at the next village board meeting.
Mayor Nyski Trojaki assisted with certificate presentation and photos. Committee members and staff were thanked for coordinating the program.
