Oak Lawn donates $35,000 from Fall Fest to local charities COURAGE and Parklawn

The Village of Oak Lawn on Oct. 28 presented Fall Fest checks totaling $35,000 to two local nonprofit organizations.
Molly O'Grady, representing COURAGE, said COURAGE has operated since 1980 to support single mothers and their infants and young children by providing baby-care items and help with housing and utility bills. "For those of you that are not familiar with COURAGE, it is a program that started in 1980. It supports single moms and their infants and young children," O'Grady said. The board presented COURAGE with a check for $13,000.
Denise Rahm, associate executive director of Parklawn, thanked the village and said Parklawn will remain in Oak Lawn while planning to retrofit a 1960s-era building to ADA-compliant space for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Rahm said Parklawn currently serves about 180 individuals directly and supports roughly 365 people in their homes. "We are staying in Oak Lawn, and we need many, many people from the community to come with us and turn the page," Rahm said. The village presented Parklawn with a check for $22,000.
Trustees and the mayor praised the Fall Fest as a non–taxpayer-funded community event that brought in business sponsors and volunteer support for village charities and thanked first responders for keeping the event safe.
