Community development staff reports construction activity at Ogden Hill, new strip center application and 2026 schedule

Director Afton briefed the commission on routine administrative and development updates. He said that the typical New Year’s Day meeting will be moved to Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, and that the commission will maintain its usual practice of not holding a July meeting unless a special meeting is needed.
On development activity, Director Afton said Wind Trust has begun construction activity at Ogden Hill near Goodwin and Route 30 and is assembling contractors in preparation to apply for full building permits. He also said the department received an application for a three-unit strip center adjacent to Cooper’s Hawk that is expected to include a Hawaiian Brothers restaurant; that project appears to be proceeding through administrative review rather than requiring special-use or variance requests. Finally, he reported that Dr. Horton has begun permit activity for Unit 2 at Marquis Point, with public improvements in place and four lots applied for in Unit 2 so far.
No formal votes were taken on these informational items. Director Afton asked commissioners to notify staff if they will be unable to attend the meeting in the month the items will be scheduled so staff can confirm a quorum.
