Christina (village staff) noted the district’s growth under Skilton—from about 25,000 patrons when she started to more than 70,000—and credited her with advancing a second Montgomery library and negotiating land downtown for a potential third site.
Krista Katzen, introduced as the district’s incoming executive director, told the board she worked alongside Skilton for nearly two decades and described Skilton as a mentor for staff and patrons. Staff and trustees praised Skilton’s effort to secure a library outreach vehicle; speakers said the vehicle is expected to be operational by summer and will enable home delivery and service in more rural areas of the district.
Trustees offered personal remembrances of Skilton’s leadership and the board presented a small token of appreciation. Skilton thanked the board and community and said she was glad the recognition was recorded so family could view it. The board then invited the library board and elected officials for a commemorative photograph. The ceremony concluded with brief remarks about continuity of service and appreciation for Skilton’s contributions.
