Trustees discuss possibility of fluoride referendum, request fact sheet for public education

"If there's signatures from the public required to get it on the referendum, or if this governing body can ask to have it put on the referendum," Speaker 2 said.
Speaker 5 said the trustees support removal of fluoride from the drinking-water system. Several trustees asked for a fact sheet and public education before the board takes any formal action: "I'd like to be educated when I get accosted about the pros and cons before we do that," Speaker 3 said. The group suggested using existing CDC or drinking-water program materials as a starting point and considered Maynard Water as a technical resource.
No motion was made to place the issue on a ballot during the meeting; the agreed next step was for staff to prepare a fact sheet and bring it to the next meeting for consideration.
