Austin ISD celebrates ribbon cutting at Williams Elementary after 2022 bond renovations

"Y'all deserve doors. You deserve so much more," Austin ISD Superintendent Matthias Segura said during his remarks, praising the renovations as part of the district's investment in neighborhood schools. Superintendent Segura framed the project as an outcome of district planning intended to create safe, inspiring learning environments.
Principal Michelle Goode described the changes completed at Williams, including enclosed classrooms, an upgraded front entrance and enhanced building security. She thanked the architect "Smith and Company," construction team "Valfour Beatty," program manager AECOM and the school's CAT team of teachers, staff, parents and community members who helped shape the project. Goode also invited attendees to take tours of the new spaces and to join refreshments after the ribbon cutting.
Board President Lynn Boswell said the renovation is "an investment not just in a building, but in our students, in our educators, in our neighborhood," noting Williams is among the first major bond projects to open to students. Boswell credited voters, district staff and the CAT team for moving the work forward and said additional bond projects are underway across the district.
The ceremony included a short program of student recitations of the Williams pledge and the debut of the school's new song. Principal Goode recognized long-serving staff, including Miss Melton, who Goode said has worked at the school for 30 years. After the ribbon cutting and group photos, project team members offered campus tours to attendees.
No formal board action or vote took place at the event; the program was ceremonial and celebratory. The district and school encouraged continued community support for upcoming bond projects and student learning in neighborhood schools.
