Town trail plan raises $1.8M bridge estimate; officials flag vehicle-bond delay and access-control rollout

Danville Town staff presented trail-planning options that focus on keeping crossings close to Route 36 for pedestrian convenience, discussed reuse of a historic bridge and cited an estimated price of $1,800,000 for bridge work.
"So but I got a price that's 1,800,000.0," Speaker 2 said when describing the bridge estimate. Staff said they are investigating matching funds and additional information from consultants and noted consultants prepared a historical background stating the bridge is roughly 150 years old.
Speaker 2 also outlined steps to improve crossing safety, including adding crosswalks and possibly a flashing yellow signal in front of the park. The plan contemplates phased construction if required to limit disruption and manage cost.
On operations, Speaker 2 said the parks had been the beta test for a new enterprise access-control system and reported the system is live for park facilities; the town will work to bring municipal buildings onto the same platform to simplify card/key access.
In the financial update, Speaker 2 said the town planned to issue a vehicle bond this year but delays related to a separate fire territory project left the town a year behind on its equipment replacement rotation. Speaker 2 said skipping last year's bond has created concern about keeping to the roughly 20-year replacement schedule for mowers and vehicles.
No formal votes were taken on the bridge estimate, access-control rollout or vehicle-bond timing during this meeting; staff said they would provide additional data to the board in coming meetings.
