Parks staff presented a plan to repair drainage issues at Lake Blanton in front of the Blanton House, reporting that the town contracted a survey and a layout and recommended a modest grading and drain-work approach. Staff said previous attempts to fix the lake had stalled and that the current plan — prepared with professional help — appears inexpensive and could be completed within existing budget lines that included $25,000 previously set aside for house work.
The plan will require temporary removal of front-driveway landscaping at the first entrance to allow reshaping of the drainage ditch and regrading toward the creek. Staff said most work will be below grade and that two replacement landscaping features will be reinstalled after construction. Staff noted they would notify neighbors in advance.
Board members asked whether a future trail along Washington Street would conflict; staff said the grading would need to be redone if a trail were later installed, which could mean additional costs. Staff said they were awaiting a local contractor's price and that the work looks feasible within the current budget.
Next steps: staff will obtain contractor pricing, notify neighbors, and bring a recommended scope and cost for approval if needed.
