School committee approves warrants, personnel changes, virtual-day plan and multiple routine items

BARBOUR, R.I. — The Barbour School Committee on Nov. 18 approved several routine and policy items required for district operations.
The committee approved the executive-session and regular meeting minutes from Oct. 14 and voted to accept school warrant number 4 for October, which the motion listed as totaling $3,970,580.83. A motion to accept a resignation listed in the packet ("Kelsey Hopkins, principal assistant William L. Callahan, effective 11/03/2025") was approved, and members also voted to receive and file subsequent appointments as presented.
Under new business the committee approved homeschool applications and revocations as presented and authorized disposal of obsolete equipment and a vehicle. The group also voted to approve the 2025–26 virtual instructional-day plan, which Mr. Mayfield said is intended for emergencies or to cover an excessive number of snow days; Mayfield said the plan must be approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) after the committee’s vote before it could be used.
The committee approved a girls ice-hockey overnight field trip to Martha’s Vineyard, and also approved a budget motion described in the packet as the '20 seventh school budget.'
