Three candidates for Provo City Council District 2 lay out priorities on housing, conservation and neighborhood voice

Provo — Three candidates seeking Provo City Council’s District 2 seat presented competing visions for growth, housing and neighborhood engagement at a public forum moderated by incumbent George Hanley.

"My name is George Hanley. I'm the current occupant of District 2 on the city council," Hanley said as he opened the event and explained the format. Candidates Hannah Peterson, Sally Clayton and Jeff (the transcript did not include his last name) each gave opening remarks and answered audience questions on character, taxation, conservation, housing affordability and the city’s relationship with universities.

Hannah Peterson, a long-term district resident and environmental planner, said she would prioritize neighborhood voice and conservation. "I am always going to be loyal to my constituents," Peterson said, describing years of neighborhood leadership and service on zoning committees and arguing that city council votes directly affect residents' daily lives.
