ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — The Zionsville Park Board voted unanimously Dec. 10 to approve the purchase of a Ventrac utility tractor for $48,224.03, pending a council re-appropriation of funds.
Jared, the parks superintendent, said the department needs a secondary tractor after a primary Kubota failed last summer and that the Ventrac’s attachments — including a brush cutter, aerator and an optional 95-inch mowing deck — would improve field and prairie maintenance. "We expect a Ventrac tractor...for a total of $48,224.03," Jared said, describing Sourcewell as the cooperative procurement vehicle used for the purchase.
Doug Tishbein moved to approve the purchase and Jared seconded the motion. The board took a roll-call vote and the motion passed with all members present voting yes. Board members discussed serviceability — Jared noted local certified dealers and two service locations — and the tractor’s two-year warranty.
The approval is contingent on the town council approving the proposed re-appropriation to move funds from personnel savings into equipment. If the council does not approve, the tractor purchase will not proceed as authorized by the board.
Next steps: the superintendent will request the council re-appropriation needed to execute the purchase and complete procurement through the Sourcewell contract.
