Oviedo council vacates 107-foot driveway easement; staff found no utilities or public purpose

The Oviedo City Council on Dec. 15 approved a resolution to vacate approximately 107 feet of an unnamed driveway located between East Franklin Street and Geneva Drive.
City staff displayed a map, described the area (approximately 24 feet wide) and said a northern portion adjacent to Geneva Drive will remain public right of way to preserve access to Parcel 34A. Staff reported contacting utility companies and finding no utilities within the subject right of way and recommended vacation because there was no public purpose for keeping it.
Two people who submitted written requests spoke in support of the vacation; one identified herself as Glenda Wilson and thanked the council for considering the request on behalf of a local property owner. Council members moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it by roll call.
Staff said the vacation was intended to avoid creating nonconforming lots and to preserve necessary public access while giving adjacent property owners greater use of the vacated portion.
