Council names Geneva Drive connector 'Citizens Lane', cites local bank history

The Oviedo City Council on Dec. 15 adopted Resolution 4681-25 to name the Geneva Drive to State Route 34 connector "Citizens Lane." City staff recommended the name after a resident survey produced 271 entries and review with county naming ordinances and 911.
Council members described the name as a nod to local history and community identity. One councilmember said the name "includes the entire community" and another called it a "throwback to our heritage." The chamber invited members of the Citizens Bank family and staff to join a photograph at the front of City Hall to commemorate the action.
During remarks, speakers recounted that the citizens of Oviedo formed Citizens Bank in 1946 when the town lacked a local bank; they described community fundraising and long service by bank employees, mentioning Gloria Dunmayer and Tim Slattery as long-serving staff and Liz Ollen by family association with the bank.
The motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and carried by roll call. The council moved promptly to take a commemorative photo and hear brief historical remarks from those present.
