Lancaster schools report enrollment, new programs and fresh‑food lunches; board approves November invoices

Lancaster County Public Schools officials told the Board of Supervisors Dec. 11 about program expansions, enrollment and facilities preparations while the board simultaneously approved county expenses for November 2025.

Miss Davis said the Early Childhood Education Center is operating with 93 students (35 three‑year‑olds and 58 four‑year‑olds), and the division restarted a choir program led by Lancaster alum Destiny Carter with more than 70 students involved. She described expanded postsecondary planning (four‑year plans for students, internships and partnerships including a GEAR UP cohort and a partnership with Longwood University), increased Governor's School participation (21 students) and a technical center enrollment of 44.

Miss Davis also described a shift to fresh‑food daily offerings under newly hired chef Crystal Jett and a partnership with Healthy Fresh to source produce, with plans to expand local farm sourcing over time. On safety and facilities, she said cameras will be accessible to school security, administrators and select central office staff; staff also responded to a misreported security incident that day which generated cross‑county concern and required coordinated communications to correct misinformation.

Separately, the board approved November invoices and payroll by voice vote. County staff reported November totals of $4,890,589.63 in invoices and $479,338.84 in payroll, for a combined total of $5,369,928.47; capital improvements accounted for $4,187,453.17 of that figure.

The board also approved reappointments and nominations to boards and commissions later in the meeting (including a reappointment of Glenn Tigner to the Building Code Appeals Board and a nomination of John Norton to the Wetlands Board). The board set a joint work session with the school board for Jan. 29, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the FY '27 budget.
