At its Dec. 18 session the Ypsilanti Police Advisory Commission approved its 2026 meeting dates, elected new leadership and committed to closer engagement with the department through station visits and ride‑alongs.
After brief calendar edits (September 22 and Oct. 26 moved), commissioners voted to approve the schedule. During leadership nominations commissioners put forward Herman, Eric, Kathleen McCormick and Alex. Following discussion, the commission approved Kathleen McCormick for the chair role and selected Alex to serve as vice chair; commissioners agreed the change will take effect in January.
The commission also discussed its annual report to city council and asked members to submit their contributions to Tracy so a combined report can be forwarded to the council in early January. Commissioners agreed to visit the police station and complete ride‑alongs, with the chief offering to circulate a simple background form and suggesting peak observation hours between mid‑afternoon and evening to maximize exposure to activity.
Commissioners noted an open seat for Ward 3 and encouraged recruiting efforts. The meeting ended after a voice vote to adjourn and holiday greetings.
