Budget proposal funds law-enforcement pay increases, career plan for troopers and State Guard expansion

Executive Director Dave Kerner described a proposed career development plan for Florida State Troopers to improve retention and said fleet renewal is a priority because many pursuit vehicles have high mileage and equipment acquisition costs have risen substantially. Kerner said the department plans to refresh vehicles and invest in fleet modernization.
Florida State Guard leadership said the governor's proposal restores resourcing to allow full recruiting, training and operations after the guard's reconstitution; officials reported multiple activations in recent years and described the State Guard's role in hurricane response and community resilience efforts.
The administration framed these measures as necessary to sustain personnel and operational readiness. Budget adoption and exact appropriation language will be determined by the Legislature.
