Council hears briefing on Duke Energy’s planned village-wide gas-main replacement

Village staff updated the council that Duke Energy plans to replace gas mains in Terrace Park that were installed in the 1960s. The project, after roughly two and a half years of planning, is expected to begin in early 2025 and last approximately 12–18 months. Staff estimated about 95% of village streets will be affected and said Duke will need access to service lines inside some homes.
Staff said the company provided mapping flags and paint to identify existing lines and that, where feasible, work may use tunneling techniques; Duke has responsibility to fully restore village property to pre-construction condition. A briefing with Duke’s project coordinator was scheduled for July 10 and staff planned to post a map on the village website and send notifications through CodeRED.
Council members asked for more specifics about whether trenches would run down the middle or one side of the road and for a detailed work map, which staff committed to obtain. Staff also noted coordination with upcoming local street work (JK Muir) and ODOT resurfacing on Route 50 may affect scheduling and staging; staff had scheduled a July meeting with ODOT to address conduit damage and cost responsibility.
No formal action was taken; staff will report back with maps and more detailed timelines.
