Votes at a glance: appointments, contracts and calendar items approved by Ypsilanti council

At its Dec. 18 meeting the Ypsilanti City Council approved several largely noncontroversial items by roll call, including appointments and contract renewals.

Appointments and reappointments: Ingrid was appointed to the Planning Commission with a term expiring May 1, 2027; Alexander was reappointed to the Historic District Commission through Dec. 31, 2028; other commissioner appointments and reappointments carried unanimously.

Contracts and procurement: Council approved a three-year contract renewal with DuePoint for managed IT services (first-year cost $186,000) with two one-year renewal options; staff said the renewal includes time-and-materials clauses to cover out-of-scope work and projected options for future cybersecurity and Intune projects.

Health-insurance item: In response to IAFF contract language, council approved a staff recommendation to offer IAFF members the Community Blue PPO at 100% coverage and to administer a self-funded Simply Blue PPO option to match core benefits; staff estimated an additional $11,000 cost relative to the new baseline.

Calendar and procedural items: Council adjusted the 2026 regular-meeting calendar (moved a January meeting to Jan. 8 and canceled Dec. 15; removed the July 7 meeting due to its proximity to a holiday weekend) and adopted an onboarding and orientation process for new council members with a mentorship provision led by the mayor and mayor pro tem.
