The Hampton City School Board opened its Dec. 3 meeting with several recognitions.

Board members presented certificates and banners to the Kilgore Gifted Center middle-school girls and boys track teams as the 20252026 championship winners. Staff noted the championship meet took place at Boo Williams Sportsplex on Nov. 18; the girls earned a combined 67 points and the boys 77 points. Coaches Danielle Smith and Delshawn Bell and assistants accepted awards; coaches thanked the district for expanding middle-school sports and praised student commitment.

Dr. Stacy Barrow introduced Lindsey Brown as the new principal of Captain John Smith Elementary School. Brown stepped into the principalship on Nov. 6, 2025, and described prior service at Phoebus High School as an academy principal, previous assistant-principal duties, and teaching experience; staff reported Brown holds degrees from Kentucky State University, Indiana University and Old Dominion University.

Chair Mason closed the recognitions and the board moved to the consent agenda.
