Summary
The Property Management Committee approved a 10-year lease of a county-owned building to Christiana Volunteer Fire Department for $10 over 10 years; the fire company will cover utilities, maintenance and carry liability insurance with county-recommended limits.
The Rutherford County Property Management Committee voted to approve a 10-year lease of a vacant county building to the Christiana Volunteer Fire Department.
Chief Farley told the committee the department requested use of the old station at 2517 Millen Fossil Road in Bell Buckle after the county opened a new facility in Plainview. Under the proposed lease the department would pay $10 for the 10-year term, would be responsible for utilities and routine repairs, and must maintain liability insurance. "Nick, our county attorney, recommended a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 per occurrence and then $2,000,000 aggregate," Chief Farley said.
Commissioner Dodd moved to approve the lease and Commissioner Anthony Johnson seconded. The committee called the roll and the motion passed unanimously.
The lease preserves county property by returning the unused building to active service with a volunteer fire department. The agreement leaves responsibility for maintenance and operating costs with the tenant and requires insurance that the county’s attorney reviewed.
The committee did not discuss rent escalation, a condition-report attachment, or specific repair timelines during the public discussion; these matters will be handled through the finalized lease documents and county attorney review.
