Rutherford County Commission approves November financials, accepts OSHA and wellness reports

Rutherford County commissioners on Dec. 18 approved the county's November financial report and accepted routine safety and wellness updates during a brief meeting.
Finance presenter Ed Elam reported November revenue of $1,876,031 against expenses of $2,442,489, a monthly deficit of $566,458. For the calendar year, revenue totaled $22,282,792 and expenses $27,212,993, a $4,930,201 shortfall; fiscal-year revenue of $9,848,012 contrasted with expenditures of $13,159,476, a $3,311,464 deficit. Elam also reported workers' compensation and OJI totals and year-to-date reserves and payments.
The commission moved to approve the financial report, and a roll call recorded affirmative votes from Commissioner Boyd; Amber Brown; Mike Curtis; Holly Deering; Brian Gaither; Lois Miller; Commissioner McAdoo; Commissioner Phillips; Jennifer Schmidt; Michael Smith; Steve Spence; and Sonia Stephenson.
The panel also heard the county's OSHA report. "We had 23 incidences," Susan Thompson said, adding 16 occurred at the Board of Education and seven at County General. She reported year-to-date figures of 217 incidents, 169 OSHA-recordable cases, 41 lost-day claims and 97 restricted-day claims, with reserves of $991,038 and $588,921 paid year to date.
Molly Howe gave the wellness update for the 2026 plan-year point period, reporting 3,258 wellness points earned and 695 wellness goals met. The wellness report was accepted without objection.
The commission approved the minutes of the prior meeting by voice vote earlier in the session. The meeting adjourned after brief further announcements.
