The Village of Terrace Park received a presentation on a multi‑phase gas-line replacement that Duke Energy will perform in the village, with an initial schedule that may start in January and run over several phases. Village Administrator Gerald Hayhoe said the project is a Duke decision and Duke (or its contractors) will carry out the work; the village is not funding the replacement.
Hayhoe explained that many existing gas lines are old steel pipelines that are rusting and that Duke intends to replace them with modern materials. “I can tell you that the gas lines that were put in were put in long time ago… they are made of, I believe, steel. So they're rusting and stuff and what they're going to put in is some type of, polymer or plastic, basically, or PVC or something, so that they don't rust,” Hayhoe said.
Council and staff described resident outreach plans: Duke will provide door tags for affected residences, a hotline and a dedicated website linked from terracepark.org, and representatives or contractors will relight pilot lights when service is restored. Hayhoe said Duke will try to bore rather than open-trench where possible, and that Phase 4 will be scheduled to avoid school sessions when practical. The village expects notices via Code Red and updates posted on the village website.
No precise phase durations or exact start dates were provided; officials said Duke will firm the schedule once it begins work and will update the community through the village website and code-red alerts.
