The Town of Merrillville Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception allowing Tire Master to operate a tire service facility at 1140 West Lincoln Highway.
When the case (Z33E19) was first called, the petitioner representing a different named filer was absent and the board debated deferral. Later in the meeting, petitioner Khalid Alsheik appeared and described plans to operate Tire Master, providing tire repair, balancing and alignment services with a minimum of 10 employees and hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. He said the business currently operates several locations and owns the property; planned site improvements include parking-lot repairs, enhanced landscaping and a resolved fence line.
Sheila (staff) reported the petitioner will use K and S Tire Removal to haul used tires and emphasized that the approval would be for this petitioner, location and use only. Board members asked whether operations would include brake work or other services; Khalid said not at present and that he would return for permits if the scope expands. The petitioner said used-tire pickup would occur every three to four days and that stored tires would be contained.
A motion to approve case Z33E19 was made and seconded; the board recorded four yes votes and approved the special exception. Staff said the variance of use will go to the town council as part of standard procedure where applicable, and staff will notify the petitioner of the council schedule.
